چکیده

A new preparative route for vanadium phosphate catalysts is described using supercritical CO2 as an antisolvent. The amorphous microspheroidal VPO produced is shown to be more active than comparable crystalline VPO catalysts for the selective oxidation of n-butane to maleic anhydride and, furthermore, does not require an extensive pre-treatment or activation period to establish full catalytic activity. VPO catalysts prepared using supercritical CO2 as an antisolvent maintain their amorphous nature throughout the catalyst test period. In contrast, amorphous VPO catalysts can also be prepared using liquid CO2 as antisolvent, or by solvent evaporation in vacuo, however, these materials are found to partially crystallise during the oxidation of n-butane. The wholly amorphous catalysts are characterised using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, P spin echo mapping NMR spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The role of amorphous material in vanadium phosphate catalysis is discussed in detail.

Supercritical Antisolvent Precipitation of Amorphous Copper–Zinc Georgeite and Acetate Precursors for the Preparation of Ambient‐Pressure Water‐Gas‐Shift Copper/Zinc Oxide Catalysts

A series of copper-zinc acetate and zincian georgeite precursors have been produced by supercritical CO2 antisolvent (SAS) precipitation as precursors to Cu/ZnO catalysts for the water gas shift (WGS) reaction. The amorphous materials were prepared by varying the water/ethanol volumetric ratio in the initial metal acetate solutions. Water addition promoted georgeite formation at the expense of ...

Synthesis of high surface area CuMn2O4 by supercritical anti-solvent precipitation for the oxidation of CO at ambient temperature

A series of high surface area nanocrystalline copper manganese oxide catalysts have been prepared by supercritical anti-solvent (SAS) precipitation using CO2 and tested for the ambient temperature oxidation of CO. The catalysts were prepared by precipitation from an ethanol/metal acetate solution and the addition of small quantities of water was found to result in a mixed acetate precursor with...
